With apologies to Dr. Andrew Weil, one of the most important tools you can incorporate into your FASD Lifestyle™ is a deeper, slower breathing practice.
I never thought it would happen, but stress finally got to me in 2008… headaches for five or six days in a row, high blood pressure, tension in my neck and shoulders, panicky and anxious feelings in my stomach–it was grinding and depressing, and after a year I was tired, frustrated, and had had enough. I found a biofeedback therapist who finally taught me how and why to breathe properly. The simple part of it was that he hooked me up to the Relaxing Rhythms program, and I could visually see how my breathing affected my heart rate and tension.
You load the program on your computer, hook up the finger sensors with a USB connection, and follow the directions on screen. You breathe according to visual cues on the screen, and various tasks are accomplished as you control your breathing and settle your nervous system. My first activity was “juggling” three balls with my breath–it was easy to get them juggling wildly, but a lot of work to bring them back under control. However, I did it, felt the immediate and positive effects in my body, and used it every day until my physiology was back in balance.

Try the Relaxing Rhythms if you have to choose, or for just a bit more money, buy all the programs in the Super Bundle Pack… the game Journey to the Wild Divine incorporates all the meditation and breathing techniques (and more) into a game format to keep interest going. It isn’t necessary, but it made it more fun. I also allow children to try out these techniques with a lot of positive feedback from them.
Meditation, slow and easy abdominal breathing, and connecting with positive emotions are three methods for getting the desired pattern of both strength and balance. Relaxing Rhythms guided meditations lead you step by step, clearly showing your progress. Meditating is associated with balance and relaxation, and Wild Divine products are perfect for learning to meditate (for meditation beginners), or for taking your meditation practice to a new level. By synchronizing your various processes (skills that can be gained through practices in the Relaxing Rhythms Guided Meditation Program), you can quite easily reach your goals. The benefits of mediation are many. Meditation helps us reach a state of balance.
